Friday's Flowers: the wind

I listen to the wind
to the wind of my soul

Where I'll end up
well I think, only God really knows

I've sat upon the setting sun
But never, never never never
I never wanted water once

No, never, never, never

I listen to my words but they fall far below

I let my music take me where my heart wants to go

I swam upon the devil's lake

But never, never never never

I'll never make the same mistake
No, never, never, never
~Cat Stevens 'The Wind'

stochastic joy

Do you know what I love most about May?

I can walk around the garden every night, and every night there is something new to captivate my attention and inspire my awe.

The first rose bud of the summer.

Little frogs populating the newly blossomed peonies.

The surprise and wonderment of what is going to greet me upon my homecoming brings yet another kind of joy to my little world; a different joy from that of a good book or a date with Mr. NK.

A joy that just happens without predetermination. A joy that encourages one to be aware of the world around you, so that when a joy reveals itself you can capture it.

And you know what? I'm never disappointed. I don't know what I'll find or where I'll find it, or how long it will be present...but I always discover some small thing that brings joy and a wee smile to my knitterly sole soul when I walk the garden in May.

Wishing you all a wonderful Friday-eve!

of witches and weekends

Ahhh...Tuesday at last! It couldn't come fast enough!

The weekend had its ups and downs. On the down side, my laptop seemed to go belly up. This was after the satellite box went kaplooey. I revived the satellite, but I don't know whether the 'puter patient can be saved yet...fingers are crossed.

Moving onto the bright side, yes-- there is ALWAYS a bright side--we did have a great time with dear friends on Saturday evening, and we went to my folks' place on Monday for dinner and decompression time.

And look!

Something new on the needles. It's the Crooked Brook pattern (Woolgirl sock club) being knit in the Glinda Oz kit yarn by Madelinetosh.

Like Mr. Gibson, I'm ready for some nap time...but alas...Tuesday not only marks the end of a long (in all meanings of the word 'long') weekend, but the beginning of a new work week. Thank goodness it's a short week. I can wait 4 days for nap time!

Happy Tuesday!

petalicious

I have a Friday's Flowers post for you, but alas, it's still in progress. It's been a busy, busy week, so I hope you'll forgive my tardiness.

I hope you've all had a great week and are looking forward to a 'sweet' weekend!!

More later,

NK :)

Onward

AI 2009 is over. Kris is the new AI. By the time you get to the top two contestants, there are no losers. Disappointed yes, but I'm sure it won't be long before I see Adam doing what he does best without the constraints of AI rules. It's all good!

So, what will take the place of all the AI chatter?

I have a large stash that is beckoning!

Onward.

blue notes

I love these socks.

I love this yarn.

Depending on the time of day (morning, noon or evening) and the light (sun vs. overcast vs. window), the blues shift across a range of tones.

Do you think a pattern can sing to the notes of the yarn?

Nothing pitchy happening here! Hmmm....all these musical analogies...could the finale of American Idol be tonight?? Two words:

Go Adam!! Go!! Three words, but who's counting!

Have a fantastic day!!

zoo day

We went to the zoo on Sunday with Samantha and Karl to see the baby elephant! Baby?! you exclaim...

It's all relative!

Speaking of relative...check out these pen mates. Phew...quite a discrepancy in size here. I guess they don't compete for greenery at dinner time!

This guy chose to nap in a shady spot,

while his friend was checking out the bear-sized snow cone!

I must say...looking at this photo reminds of sweet baby Gibson...there are similarities, believe me!

Ahhh. Understanding and bliss.

Now down to business!

Everybody was having fun in the sun! Apparently this little girl brought along 3 pairs of shoes to the zoo, "just because"! Too cute!

After the zoo, the four of us hooked up with my sisters in the Pearl for brunch. All in all, a good time was had by all, despite the heat!

I hope you all had a fun weekend and are ready to start your Monday refreshed and relaxed!

summer's here

Early to rise.

Breakfast al fresco at the local cafe.

New socks on the needles.

Summer's here, at least for today, and I'm ready for it!

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

Friday's Flowers: Dotted Swiss

It was just a matter of time before I found this little guy on the plant. Oh my. He was a tenacious bug. There was a slight breeze when I took this picture, and I do mean slight. But it was enough to have him blowing all around. He was right, then left, then top, then down, then hanging by a thread upside down, then back up on top. He was very busy and awfully cute!

If you click the little bug picture, you can see the little pink nobs that created the 'neon light' bokeh in the other pictures. What a surprise to see them, as you can't see the little pink nobs except when magnified a bit through the lens...this close up stuff is way too cool!

I hope you have a great weekend! Sunny skies for us here in PDX! (fingers crossed!).

Joy

Joy: A state of happiness or felicity: bliss; a source or cause of delight (ala Merriam Webster). I found this post to be intriguing and inspiring. It led me to this post. Which led me to invite Sammy along for the joy+ride! Actually, I think she invited me...but that's a technicality. We're here.

I've been thinking alot about creating joy...there are many things that create delight in my little neuroknitter heart and soul. And, I must admit, I'm also pretty good at carving out time for them.

I think for the month of May I'd like to take a joy+ride to the following:

1. Somewhere new and different to hang out with Mr. NK

2. A good book

3. Walk at lunch and pause for breath.

You're welcome to come along on this ride. Just follow the link. Maybe we'll see you there!

Tuesday blues

Ahhh...is there a better way to start a Tuesday then with a new sock!?

When I saw Anne's new Keukenhof Sok I knew what this yarn was meant to be. And guess what? She is graciously letting me test knit another sock for her!

Yippy Skippy!!!

I hope your Tuesday is as happy as mine!!
