afternoon light

going

going

gone.

The second Leyburn is coming along. I finished the heel and am moving up the leg as we speak!

We are clearly moving into spring...How do I know this? Nope, I'm not a groundhog! I know because I have about five minutes of sunlight after getting home in the evening compared to two weeks ago when I had no light. Frustrating, because just as I get the camera out and get to shooting the light is gone. Me thinks I need to learn how to snap faster, or go to work at night! Hmmm...the former, most definitely.

Unveiled

Poppylisciousness!

Please say "hello" to the Papaver Sok by Anne Hanson.

I heart this pattern. And the yarn...mercy!! I think they are perfect together! The yarn is an STR Rare Gem from my stash (Yay stash usage!). And it really is that vibrant...it blows out the red channel on the camera sensor thingy if I'm not careful...yikes!

If you want to learn more about papavers...follow the link!

p.s. the picot edge is a mod I made to the pattern.

winter interrupted

Adversity draws men together and produces beauty and harmony in life's relationships, just as the cold of winter produces ice-flowers on the window-panes, which vanish with the warmth.
~Soren Kierkegaard

Last weekend we went up the mountain in search of light at sunrise. We had a thermos of hot coffee to share. You can't imagine our delight to discover the specular aura surrounding each and every branch and leaf. It was magical....and fleeting. We returned the next day for an encore.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

sun socks

I think we've seen the last of the sun for a little bit.

What's a girl to do during the cloudy days of winter, you ask?

Here's what
I'm knitting: Holidazed socks in STR Basan and Leyburns in STR Froggin'
we're watching: AI, Leverage, 24, CSI (all of them), L&O (both of them), and starting next week The Closer and Trust Me.
I'm reading: Twilight (It was filmed in and around PDX and St. Helens...woot!)
is in the Netflix queue: Mad Men, Eureka, Transsiberian, and the newest season of MI-5
movie I'm looking forward to watching: Taken (can you say Liam Neeson)

That should should keep us busy until the sun reappears...I might need some more knitting though! :)

Happy Thursday!

Tidbits

The first Leyburn is nearly complete. I'm doing a K2P1 cuff, with the purl stitches in line with the peak/trough of each lattice. I also went down a needle size to cinch it up a wee bit more.

This pattern is great. If you're on Ravelry, you must go peek at all the Leyburns being knit in different colors of STR! Oh my. Go now...I'll still be here when you're done ogling! They are a sight to behold...every single sock is stunningly gorgeous. This is a perfect pattern for showing off multicolored yarn.

I hope you all have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! Knit on!

Transitions

We're moving from gray and drizzly to sunlight. A welcome sight, indeed. The witch hazel tree in our yard is the harbinger of spring. It seems to be blooming early this year...perhaps it knows something we don't!

A new pair of socks kept my hands busy as I listened to AI tonight.

On the edge

It's been a big week. First, 24 has returned after a long, loooong, two year absence. And I'm here to say, "Jack is back with a vengeance". Yeh, baby. The hour of Bauer rules on Monday night...no email, no Ravelry, no blog surfing, no phone calls...no knitting...that's right, no knitting...just on the edge of your seat goodness with Jack and crew!

And, you know what else? AI is back! You know what that means...AI chatter can be found here; more after we go to Hollywood, but you never know! For starters, what do you think of the new judge? Too early to tell?

At least I can knit through the auditions!

Happy Wednesday!!

Sunday mornings with Gibson

Sunday through Sunday our mornings start off with an alarm lock that "mews" rather than buzzes. This photo is not a set up...I walked into the bedroom and this is what I witnessed (ahem...I'm the early riser of the family). I ran for my camera, set it up, and waited for the snooze time to expire and for the alarm to ring (paw) again.

Toast from freshly baked bread ala Mr. NK.

Welcome to the world of Gibson.

After all the work in getting his people up, breakfast, and protecting balls of yarn from rolling off the table, it was time for Mr. Gibson to take a little nap himself.

I hope your Sunday is half as restful as Gibson's!

Fiberlight

The days have been so gray and dreary here in the Pacific NW. The rains are returning this week. At least with the snow, light seemed eternal as it was being perpetually bounced around and everything was bright...albeit cold. Sigh.

Ahhh....But wait...there is a spark of light within the walls of Chez NK! I am knitting down the leg of my second Mad Color Weave sock in this gorgeous, warm and bright yarn. Thank goodness for knitting! My sanity has been preserved for a few more hours!

Abby needs some hugs and kisses...if you have a minute, please go over to Jen's and send your best wishes for her speedy recovery. Poor Abby!

Introducing

Leyburn socks in STR Froggin'.

Join the KAL party over at the Socks that Rawk group on Ravelry! See you there!

Janus

The first Mad Color Weave sock was finished on 1/1/2009! I'm calling these my Janus socks. I started them near the end of 2008 with the hope of finishing them before 2009. As a pair, they will comprise the looking forward concomitant with looking back quality that is a hallmark of the Janus mythology.

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!

Holidazed

His 'n hers Holidazed socks,

perfect for welcoming 2009!

We hope you had a wonderful celebration and entered 2009 safely with needles and fibers ready for another wonderful year of knitterly antics!

Mr. NK and I hope all your wishes for 2009 come to pass, and that your year will be filled with the love of family and friends, the blessing of good health, much laughter, and peace and contentment at home and afar.
