A Time to Knit

Thank you for the birthday wishes!! Yes, I confess, 'twas I who had a celebration this past week.

It's a cloudy day here in the Pacific Northwest. It was bound to happen. However, no complaints as today is perfect for some knitting, a little football (Notre Dame, IGK...it's on the TV, now!!! Woot) and left over Halloween treats.

Happy Saturday!!

Travels

We spent the day in the Columbia Gorge on Wednesday

in celebration of somebody who shall remain nameless' birthday.

The forest was

awash in gold.

Orchards still had a large variety of pears and apples available.

Did I mention the wildlife that we saw? It took two of us a half-hour to capture this little woodpecker!!

This kitty was adorable!

And far be it for me to visit a place that didn't have some kind of fibery offering! There is even a yarn store in Hood River!

Coming home, Mr. NK pulled off onto this little side road that ended at a boat launch into the Columbia river. We watched this gorgeous sunset transpire. Afterward, we headed to my folks' for dinner and birthday cake. Yum!

Happy Friday-eve!!

Spice Drops

The incognito RSC September socks are coming along! Incognito because I'm not following the pattern...I'm doing the Gumdrop pattern rather than the Anemone pattern. Since the yarn color is a little warmer and deeper than a "gumdrop" I'm dubbing them Spice Drops.

Kickin' back

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree”
Emily Brontë

It was a bee-u-tiful weekend here in the Pacific Northwest.

The mornings were brisk, the days clear and lovely, and the evening sun was as golden as the freshly fallen leaves.

The shadows are getting longer, and the sun is sinking from view earlier and earlier.

It's time to pull on these socks and settle in for the chillier days ahead.

Happy Monday!

Inspired

I've been inspired by Tiennie's newest socks, the lovely Anastasia socks designed by Pepperknit. I decided to immediately cast on my special Woolgirl "It's a Charlie Brown Fall" yarn dyed by Miss Babs and knit up a pair for myelf.

Note to self

Dearest Self: I know how much you adore the autumn. "Adore" being an understatement of immense proportion! Having been born during autumn, I suspect you have red, orange, yellow and golden brown leaves creating your double-helix of genetic material.

Therefore, I implore you to please, oh please, take the last 2.5 weeks of October as vacation time in 2009!! Maybe add the first week of November for good measure (Mwahaha!).

Enjoy the leaves! Breathe in the crisp autumn air! Don't be rushed to get the shot!

Explore the nuances of leafness.

End your frustration of always being in the car going to work when the light is perfect...

...and the leaves are perfect. Just. Perfect.

Go to the beach in search of leaves. Hood River. Local parks. Grab your coat and scarf and take a walk with Mr. NK...wander the neighborhoods in NE and SE PDX with hot cocoa in one hand and his in another and stalk the best trees together!

Take the time to romp in the morning light...guilt free.

You have 337 days to plan your attack on Autumn 2009. Start now.

Just do it!

Gibson Approved

Yesterday was brightened considerably by the arrival of the Charlie Brown Fall kit from Jen at Woolgirl! Boy does that girl know how to put together a kit! Are these not my colors??!!! They screamed "Autumn" so loudly I had to put ear plugs in to sleep and resist the urge to cast on right away! I know...silly girl! What was I thinking? Not! :) That cute Charlie Brown bag is absolutely perfect!!

And of course the kit has been "Gibson Approved"...needless to say the chocolates that were in the package are long gone...mostly into him!

On another note...Yay Leanne! She won the 5th season of Project Runway last night. Her collection contained a strong wave/petal motif that was inspired by the river. She also used fabrics that were eco-friendly. Leanne rocks!

Happy Friday-eve!!

Odd skein out

Yep. I decided to break from pack. I'm doing the Gumdrop pattern with the Tide Pooling yarn, the September installment of the RSC.

On another note, Leanne Marshall of Portland, OR is in the finals on Project Runway. She has done really well so far! Wednesday is the finale. If you're a regular watcher, I thought Kenley should've been booted off a long time ago. Korto is ok, but a little hit and miss. Go Leanne!!

Back to the needles!

Lovejoy

I found some beautifully backlit leaves while walking between destinations yesterday evening in NW PDX. I arranged my sock and started snapping away between a parked car and a bus stop, all the while balancing precariously on a small section of the curb. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

Acquisitions

STR Rare Gems from BMFA procured during OFFF. Zales clearly has nothing on Tina in the "gem" category! And, I clearly have a one track mind regarding an autumnal color palette!
